Aosta Valley’s Ski Season Gets Underway

Aosta Valley’s 2024/25 winter ski season is ready to debut with the opening of the Cervinia area – with 11 months of ski per year! – scheduled for the weekend of 26/ October, with the opening of Courmayeur, La Thuile and Pila in November and Monterosa in December. The season will then continue until 4 May 2025.

With 19 resorts, over 800 kilometres of slopes, 8 snow parks and a single international electronic ski pass for direct access to all runs there is something to discover for everyone in Aosta Valley. From the international resorts of Breuil-Cervinia nestled between Italy and Switzerland and La Thuile located between Italy and France, to the challenging resorts of Courmayeur and Monterosa (Champoluc and Gressoney), and all the way through to the family friendly resort of Pila.

Cervinia: 26 Oct – 4 May 2025. This modern resort on the Matterhorn, with access to Europe’s highest lifts and holder of the best snow record in Italy, is one of the world’s leading resorts with pistes up to 3,480m. This ski area links with Valtournenche (5km below), and Zermatt in Switzerland, offering 360km of pistes overall. Courmayeur: 30 November – 6 April 2025. Full of character and great ski terrain, Courmayeur, at 1,224m altitude close to the French border is a top choice for all skiers, with a lively village and stunning restaurants. Reachable via the Courmayeur cable car or the Val Veny cable car (Entrèves), it offers 18 ski lifts, +100 km of slopes and off-piste with a unique view of Mont Blanc: Aosta Valley’s masterpiece. The area is also ideal for those who love freeriding and off-piste. La Thuile: 30 November – 21st April 2025. Located at 1,440m on Mont Blanc, the uncrowded nature of La Thuile’s ski area makes it a hugely appealing choice for advanced skiers looking to ski fresh tracks. The area is home to 160km of runs with a great of mix of magnificent intermediate terrain, great reds and ferocious blacks through the trees, and easy blues and good nursery slopes for beginners. Pila: 30 November – 13 April 2025, Located above Aosta town, Pila is just a 20-minute gondola ride away. With a big vertical high, superb snowmaking and slopes up to 2700m, it’s one of the most snow sure destinations. The resort features magnificent views reaching Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn and it has a reputation for lively après-ski too. Read more.

Monterosa: 6 December – 21st April 2025. The Monterosa ski area is a string of interconnected resorts on Monterosa that unfurl across three valleys: Ayas, Gressoney and Valsesia. With more than 100 km of pistes, the area is of the world’s largest ski circuits, home to several resorts between altitudes of 1,212m and 3,275m. The main resorts are Champoluc and Gressoney.
Champoluc: With access to 180km of pistes, surrounded by wooded terrain and based at one end of the Monterosa area (with Gressoney in the central valley and Alagna on the far side), this is the largest resort in the Monterosa area and boasts spectacular views of dramatic glaciers. It benefits from access to the whole Monterosa circuit, renowned for its uncrowded slopes and fabulous off-piste terrain.
Gressoney: Based at the centre of the Monterosa ‘three valleys’, alongside Champoluc and Alagna, Gressoney is actually two villages: Gressoney-La-Trinité and Gressoney-Saint-Jean. Ideal for intermediates and experts, the resorts are unspoilt with authentic alpine ambience. From Gressoney-La-Trinité skiers can access the whole of the Monterosa ski circuit. Those staying in Gressoney-Saint-Jean have their own slopes to enjoy.
